The Organizing Committee of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games held the 1st Rio 2016 Licensing Meeting, during which it launched the Games Licensing Program, at Rio de Janeiro’s Modern Art Museum (MAM) this week.

The organizers expect to achieve a total of 60 licensed companies, over 12,000 types of products and 6,000 points of sale. Between 2014 and 2016, over 150 official stores will be opened in places like airports, shopping malls and hotels, in addition to the Olympic and Paralympic Villages and every venue of the Games.

According to the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, 80% of these stores will be in Rio de Janeiro, and the remaining 20% will be located in other major Brazilian cities. The plans also include a megastore on Copacabana Beach. However, the first official products will be available at a store to be set up at the Brazil House in London as early as this year, during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Organizing Committee will be licensing the Olympic and Paralympic Games brands, as well as that of Time Brasil [Brazil Team.] In addition to being a source of revenue for the organizers, product licensing is a strategy to engage the public and create business opportunities for a wide range of companies.
